Baking and Pastry schools prepare students for various positions at bakeries, pastry shops, restaurants, hotels, and supermarkets. Through intensive study and hands-on instruction, you'll develop the skills necessary to plan menus, train other restaurant workers, and work with hospitality managers. You will learn to: • Mix ingredients in the proper proportions and consistencies, with education in chemical reactions • Work with many types of dough, including specialty yeast dough • Create mouth watering cakes and desserts for all occasions • Make candy and other assorted sweets • Work with various fillings, pastries, puff pastry, and quick breads • Prepare breads, rolls, crackers, cakes, pies, candies, pastries and other bakery products for distribution in retail or commercial food establishments • Work with chocolate, marzipan, and blown, spun and pulled sugar • Decorate cakes with flowers, designs and figures to create a professional-looking decorative showpieces. • Produce specialty cakes and desserts • Prepare and present a wide range of restaurant and bake shop items You'll also receive training in nutrition, sanitation, government health regulations, and hospitality business principles.
